Came up to OOB for vacation and had to check this place out. Soo glad I did! I got the land and sea burger and deep fried brownie nugs :) they were both amazing. The owners were super nice and the inside had such awesome decor. I'll definitely have to come back before vacation is over!

Wow! Mixing all sorts off food for a taste explosion unlike any other. Kind staff willing to discuss the unique menu

A couple of my friends told me about this place and I was skeptical, but it lived up to their recommendation! My fiancée and I split the double dragon, the haddock sandwich with the spicy mayo, and the Mother Futcher's shake. I must say, the fish sandwich was my favorite, but the double D was extremely tasty as well. The shake is a meal of its own, but delicious, as is the coffee cake! There are a decent amount of food options in OOB, but this is near or at the top of the list. It is what it is, so don't expect a fine dining atmosphere. It's a food shack at the beach, what more could you ask for? If your tastebuds are looking to expand its reaches beyond fried dough and bland pizza, this is the place to go!

According to the sign out front they specialize in "tasty grub". I would describe the theme as over-the-top deliciousness. Feel like a lobster roll theirs is flash fried in batter, then served in a buttered and grilled bun. Can't decide between a burger or lobster roll? Do what I did and get the lobster BLT Burger. A bacon burger topped with fried lobster and a spicy tarter sauce. Just filthy delicious good. For a side I had crispy golden onion rings. Just the right ratio of batter to onion. Every bite had an immensely satisfying crunch. Even in OOB the land of the fryer these were a standout. Burgers topped with pastrami, clam cakes or jalapeño cream cheese. This seaside shack, is a palace of excess. Open year round, and staffed by friendly on site owners.

We stopped here on vacation and I had a little bite of everything, so excuse this review for being all over the place. The deep fried brownie nugs were phenomenal. They had so many flavor layers, you had to just sit in silence for a few moments and chew. There's the powdered sugar, the fried dough, the super moist brownie... So good. The mother futchers shake was pretty good but after a few sips of it I was long over it. I wish I hadn't gotten it. That coffee cake by itself though is something to write home about. The Foghorn Leghorn burger. Do not underestimate this random burger, which is just a burger with chicken tenders on it. It had no reason to be as good as it was other than sorcery. Hoss is a food sorcerer. The grilled haddock wrap, ordered it fried was just okay. The tomatoes lettuce and Chipotle Ranch made a pretty yummy salad. But the wrap as a whole just wasn't impressive. The fried lobster roll has tartar sauce, not mayo. That's my only qualm but otherwise it was really good, on one of the best rolls I've ever had. If you read this far, I love you.

We were in OOB the night before the Rev3 Triathlon on Sunday. I'd read some reviews about Hoss and Mary's and decided to check this West Grand take-out spot specializing in no-frills, "tasty grub." Owned by a husband/wife team named, Hoss (he mans the grill) and Mary (she handles the orders and front of the house), this is place for tasty burgers, sandwiches, decent deep-fried fare, and quite a bit more. They even have poutine, which isn't surprising given OOB's penchant for being a summer destination of so many French-Canadians. I went with the haddock reuben, and it was outstanding. The haddock was deep-fried to a golden crispness, the slaw was crisp, and the Russian dressing, tangy. One caveat--they don't do plastic, so be sure to bring cash.

This place is really something. If you want a true excessive American dining experience, I suppose this is a good place for it. The food was hot and made to order, the French fries crunchy, the indigestion and type II diabetes following the meal imminent. The ingredients didn't appear to be super high quality but the two people working there (I'm assuming they were Hoss and Mary themselves) were incredibly nice and it was apparent that they had pride in their work. I probably wouldn't return but I don't 100% regret trying it.

I'm just mad. Mad that I've waited this long to go here. Oh the excuses. They only take cash. There's no place to park. I can't stand tourists. It's closed. Tonight was the night though. The stars were perfectly aligned. All was right with the world and we knew what we were having before we even entered to order. Every special written on the surfboard outside looked scrumptious and it was a difficult choice. But I have developed a rule that it's best to go with the first item you see without second guessing. It turned out that my DC ordered my backup so I knew I'd get a big taste. Mary took our order and don't believe what other people said that she was rude. She is wonderful. A breath of fresh air and can you imagine the types of people she has to deal with in Old Orchard from June-August? It takes nerves of steel to run that place and I did not get any kind of rude vibe. She is direct and to the point but offered to put a splash of lemonade in my ice tea and, for that, she deserves a million stars. The wait wasn't long for our grub but the customers kept streaming in. It was just enough time so I could grab some shots for the review and to remember all the menu items that I would like to try the next time. And they have POUTINE!!!!! So I got the Bangkok haddock wrap. The size of a chubby baby thigh. Lots of crunchy slaw, wonderfully golden crisp fried haddock and CRAB RANGOON FILLING. You know it, you love it. So inventive and so effing tasty. DC got a thanksgiving aka Pilgrim wrap heavily doused with a chipotle sauce giving it a lot of heat and oddly cheddar cheese which was what initially made me stick with the Bangkok. But the combo worked! You know this place is where Adam Richman filmed an ep. of Man v. Food and he tackled the Manimal challenge, right? Methinks the manimal is no more because there was a slight tense change perceptively noticed by the DC on the rules from the Manimal Is to Was. The last winner was on 3/29/13. Maybe they put it on hiatus because it's impossible to monitor during the summer. But I can't think of a better time with all those hormonally -charged young men just aching to best each other and impress all the shawties. So there are pics of mostly men proudly displaying their t-shirts won in this festival of excess. But one lady dubbed the OG stands out from the sausage fest. Props to her for rising to the challenge and being proclaimed a "woman-imal". Anyway, Hoss at last calls us to retrieve our order and says he thinks my DC looks familiar. When I questioned DC later he said that he had been to their former location on Route 1 in Arundel formerly known as the Tradewinds Cafe. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT????? He'd been hiding that fact from me the whole time! I was shocked. This one is always surprising me. And props to Hoss for having one of those freaky long-term memories. That takes talent. Back to the food. So I was literally in heaven it was sooo good and of course I had a bite of the DC's. We ate in, I think, 5 minutes because I was looking at the clock knowing I had to get back to prepare for school tomorrow. Ok but now I have to talk about the milkshake. You know the one - Mother Futcher's. Well we could see a cake that was in the process of being prepared - the mold was like a hubcap. Just selling the coffee cake alone would allow Hoss and Mary to retire and never work another day in their lives. $4.75 a slice and worth every crumb. But of course we had to take that warm, caramelized, pecan hunk and pulverize it in the blender with some vanilla ice cream. Decadent can't even describe it. The coffee cake is like a dream. Did I mention caramelized? Yes, never had coffee cake so good and my Mom's sourcream cake that she made every Christmas growing up was da bomb. Anyway don't worry, you still have time to visit - H&M's doesn't close until the first snow flies and with the weather we've been having it could be as soon as October or not until next March so you're good. Just so you know, the motel across the street does allow patrons to park but from here on out, you should have no problem with parking as the season is winding down. And there is an ATM for the cashless...

Remember that scene in "Zack and Miri Make A Porno" where Zack and Miri finally do it? It gets all hot and heavy and that song by Live starts playing. That's what it was like for me when I bit into the Brooklyn burger for the first time. It was hot, juicy, and I wanted more. I highly recommend it.

  • Anna S.

Had seen their previous restaurant "Tradewinds Cafe" on Man vs. Food, so traveling to my grandmother's house in Augusta. It was well worth the stop and the food was phenomenal! My mom and I split a fried lobster roll basket, which came with fries and slaw, and a famous Mother Futcher's coffee cake milkshake. That filled both of us up! I highly recommend this to anyone vacationing in Maine!

    (5)
  • Beth G.

Went for dinner. They close at 8 and are cash only, but they have an ATM inside. Insanely friendly people! I got fried libster and clam cakes, which were awesome, and my bf got the double dragon sandwich, which had pastrami and beef. His sandwich was amazing and it was a lot of food for the money. Well worth it!

  • Bill W.

My first visit, but it won't be my last! Found it on Yelp & decided to give it a try. Man do I love this place! Come hungry, cause you're gonna leave really full. And bring cash - no plastic. What a crazy list of burgers, phillies - combos if never considered, that are just amazing! Love it!! Five stars all the way! :)

world famous motherfutchers shake! nuff said. their daily specials look fantastic and we only regret eating before we came. great dessert lace. will be back again to try more.

I'd eat breakfast, lunch and dinner here every day if I could...

  • Paula G.

I've only eaten here once after listening to my mother rave about the poutine. I had the Thanksgiving sub... turkey, stuffing (it was cold which was weird), cranberry sauce, mayo on a huge roll. The sandwich was so big I could only eat half. The poutine was also humongous, so if you order it, be sure to share with at least 3 others, if not more. Everything was really good. The staff was incredibly friendly. Prices were decent, on par with everything in OOB. I didn't read the reviews before I went, so I know to try the cake milkshake when I drop in next time. Great lunch!

  • Dj B.

I consider myself to be a bit of a food snob. I am a great cook and there are not many eateries that impress me. Having said that, I find myself fantasizing about Hoss and Mary and their Cuban wrap. I ask them to grill the haddock instead of frying it. This sandwich offers 2 meals because it is so huge and filling, and sooo delicious.

    (5)
  • Brian G.

What would I do without Hoss and Mary's? Well, there would still be good cold lobster rolls - just none as good as theirs within striking distance. And I could still get good sandwiches - just none as equally creative and delicious as theirs. I will tell you two things I couldn't get: first, an honest to God Philadelphia-style cheesesteak with perfectly fried onions. Second, a real Italian hoagie (they call theirs the Delaware Destroyer). Not cold cuts with olives and green peppers on a bland puffy oversized hot dog roll that is considered a delicacy in this region (no disrespect, Portland-style "Italians" just aren't my bag.) Also, their specials are second to none. The Bahn Meatball is a fuse of Asian and Italian flavors that might be the most unique sandwich I've eaten, in a good way. The special asian-style haddock wrap is also unbelievable, and packed to the gills (no pun intended). The Cafestrami is basically hot, flavorful pastrami on a long roll, Reuben style - and each bite rocks my world. I will say that not quite everything on the menu floats my boat - some of the creations are a little too out there - but I love that they don't play it safe. My favorite aspect of it all might be Hoss and Mary themselves. I don't see much of Hoss as he's always busy manning the grill, but he always manages a quick hello and thank you, which I appreciate. And Mary just flat out rules. Reading a few comments below...if she gave you the business in her business, I am almost certain it was deserved.

Burgers were just ok. Wait was forever long. Cash only. Pricey for what it is. Just ok, nothing to make a trek back for.

  • Kendra E.

Typical burger joint with all the fixin's. Made to order and served in large portions. The coffeecake milkshake is delicious but oh so filling! So if you have a small stomach, this is all you need to fill up that belly. Same goes for the Ocho burger! Full of meat to satisfy that carnivore in you.

Where are you supossed to park? Wanted to try out all the yummy things ive have seen but drove around 5 times looking where i could park and found nothing.....help a foodie out...please...went to Saco Island Deli instead...found parking there and the food was amazing but i still want to try you so help....where do i park?

  • Mike F.

Yet again Hoss & Mary's doesn't disappoint. My wife is from the Maryland/Delaware area and we make a point to grab the Delaware Destroyer to satiate my wife's craving for the hoagies she remembers from growing up! I however will eat everything else on their menu of crazy creations! The east meets west burger being a particular favorite. Today I had a Brooklyn burger, a decadent combination of a cheeseburger and a hot pastrami sandwich. Do yourself a favor, come hungry and come often.

  • Tom A.

Simply amazing. The combination of food at this place will have your mouth watering as you read the menu. Some items sound like a mad scientist is behind the scenes creating this stuff but as you taste it you'll realize it's a culinary genius. Best place in OOB and worth even the hassle of summertime crowds and traffic to get there.

Me and my family are staying right across the street for Memorial Day holiday 2013 and I remember seeing this place on an episode of Man vs Food for the " Ocho Burger " and the " Mother Futcher's coffeecake Milkshake " we'll I wasn't crazy enough to try the 8 patty burger but I couldn't resist the Milk and let me tell you it was THE BEST milkshake I have ever had in my 38 years alive. I will be getting one every day that I am here on vacation, I'm craving another one right now. 5 STAR milkshake all the way !!!!

  • Violet R.

Friendly place, great cole slaw and good food. I had the fried lobster roll and it had huge chunks of lobster. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of fried food so I probably wouldn't have gone there had I known most everything was fried, but it was still pretty good and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. They definitely had a fun vibe and the fact that it's located by the beach and the amusement park was a huge plus. Parking in that area is about $10 which isn't bad if you're spending a few hours. I enjoyed walking around after lunch.

  • Sandi S.

I have been dying to go here since I saw them on man vs food. It was everything I could've hoped for and more!! The food was delicious. I brought my 2 daughters, one got a hot dog and the other got a "Moultron", which is a jr cheeseburger with a hot dog on it, and they both said their food was awesome. I got a "Reuben by the sea", which is a piece of fried haddock with cole slaw, Swiss, and Russian dressing on buttered grilled bread. So good!!! I would definitely take the hour and a half trip up here just to eat here again!!! And the owners...VERY nice people...I can't say enough good things about this place

  • Wesley B.

Food is excellent! However the customer service needs a lot of work. The lady taking orders was very rude and inconsiderate. Id rather spend my money for over prices burgers somewhere else.

    (3)
  • Brett F.

You see the reviews, this place is delicious. I've never really seen a long line either at lunch, which is crazy. If they moved to the Old Port there would be a line out the door (and they really should consider this). The menu is huge and you won't lose weight eating here, but the sandwich I had last Sunday was one of the top 5 best sandwiches that I can remember. The most tender pulled chicken slathered in bbq sauce and cheese with sweet peppers on grilled bread. Perfection. There's burgers topped with chicken fingers, stuffed with crabbed rangoons, and other imaginative and unique combinations. Their shakes are legendary. It's a worth a trip here in the winter. In the summer on a beach day it's a no-brainer. At least until they finally do migrate to downtown Portland.

  • Jake P.

This place is terrible only because of the service, the lady was very rude to us, and we wanted 3 simple orders. We wanted to eat lobster BLT and cheesesteak and she had an attitude with every other thing. The place wasn't packed and we were told to wait a half hour, we asked why so long, and she said "you know what, how bout I give you, your money back!" What a great escape to waste that money for poor service.

  • B S.

I think this place is good for what it is, fried and very large portions of food. It really wasnt a terrible experience but when I go out I want to believe that Id pay dor something that blows my mind and or I dont make at home...one thing we had was the chili cheese fries and the cheese is fake...for 35$ for 2 ppl...id expect a bit more...and the owner hoss was complaining about us watching him from their small dining area-im not sure what we should do, the bar stools they have that were free FACE the kitchen area.....and there are some reviews on here that state mary is rude...she was super nice and bubbly when we went in but she was pretty darn rude to someone who called in, and afterwards talked a bit bad about the caller.........not the worst food and a local business which we love but I'm not sure it has that WOW that would make us come back, sorry :(

    (2)
  • Kristen D.

One of the best burgers I've ever had. They have a ton of combinations. I got a flaming moo which had buffalo sauce nacho cheese and bacon. My friends got the east meats west which had onion rings, chicken fingers, crab rangoon, with BBQ sauce. We loved the service as well! Will definitely come back!

  • Josh M.

I meet the owners of this restaurant a few years ago. They explained what they did how they did it and so on. Then a friend of mine decided to start working and told me it was very well prepared and was for the most part not too expensive. I have to say I was very impressed by their service and quality of their food. I love eating there and every chance I get I order out and enjoy the food.

    (4)
  • Jess C.

Delicious sandwiches to eat after having a bit too much to drink. I get the Rueben by the Sea and it never disappoints. The steak & cheese creations are something to look into as well. Really grateful they don't put calorie counts on the menu because i heard there are no calories on vacation ;)

Everytime i go to the beach, i step by this place. The food is so delicious. The viewer stars told that.

Food is ok but no beer to help it go down. The wait staff is excellent but confined to a very limited menu. The chef should use a little creatively if management allows. Seems they are trying to live on the Foodnetwork challenge. Its a good thing Adam likes milk and not beer.

    (2)
  • J.D. R.

The chili dog I had was ok...but the woman had a bad attitude (I don't whether she was Hoss or Mary). The piles of vomit and broken glass on sidewalk at Old Orchard (not their fault in any way) walking there kind of sucked too.

Great great food and friendly service. Terrific burger and onion rings. Good comes out fast and the place is always busy.

I found this place when going through possible places for lunch at Old Orchard Beach and this place came up. All the hype from Adam Richman's Manimal success on Man vs. Food made me want to try it: but I have to say I was disappointed. It looked promising: a small shack near the beach with everything cooked fresh (at least in theory). A simple menu with creative offerings seems like my kind of place, and the prices weren't bad, especially compared to the more touristy Wells. It wasn't packed, which was nice, but that may've been because it was a cruddy day. I got the fried lobster roll, poutine, and a can of Moxie. The fried lobster roll was good, I could still taste lobster meat because of the light breading, but I did not like the poutine. Canned salty gravy on salty fries with string cheese is not my idea of good poutine, and it was inedible. The fried haddock platter was decent, but it was average as well. The Ocho burger looked quite good, and I do want to try the manimal challenge because I'm that crazy, but given what I had, I have to say that I was not impressed.

I had the lobster BLT burger....unbelievable. If your in OOB you got to check this place out. Food is great.

My friend and I stumbled upon this little gem on a walk from our hotel during our quest for lunch. Mary was the first to greet us at the door and she was very helpful - letting us know what is what. I ordered a veggie burger and my friend ordered a fried haddock sandwich. We shared an order of cheese fries. Everything is made to order which is such a plus for me so there was about a 20 minute wait. While you wait, there are trivial pursuit cards at each table to entertain your boredom. The food was delicious - fresh, hot, and flavorful. My friend commented that the fish was unbelievably fresh. The prices are extremely reasonable and they have great music. Great place to chill midday. I can't comment on parking though.

  • Pat P.

I have just finished the best sandwich of my life. My whole life. Along with the best onion rings. I am not one to wax poetic about a sandwich. After all, sandwiches are sandwiches, just substitutes for a good meal when you really have to eat something. My usual hopes for a sandwich is that none of the ingredients have gone bad. But this sandwich? Awwwww! It was so good, I almost wept. It rivaled the best meal I've ever eaten. Wow! And it cost less than $11 including tax. Turkey club with a half order of onion rings. Due to limited space, inside seating options are limited to a few stools at a fixed tabletop bar along one wall. There are a couple of picnic tables outside.

  • Ted H.

Great, great food. Loved my Loranger- spicy enough with wonderful flavor. Half was saved for tomorrow! Fries dunked in a side of gravy was yummy. There are 10 more sandwiches that I can't wait to try.

I love Hoss and Mary's! One of the best places in OOB to get a sandwich or burger. They have a really great selection of classic and specialty sandwiches. I love that they are open year round too, which you don't expect in downtown OOB in the winter. I have yet to have a bad experience here and Hoss and Mary are great fun people!

  • Duke O.

recently visited OOB and as a culinary tourist was looking for the best place around. After sampling some of the other local eateries is easily it. The menu offers the traditional staples like hot dogs, fries, burgers, etc, as well as some MAINEstays ( see what I did there ) of the state like clam cakes and poutine. The highlight of H&M's are the crossover burgers though, like the Chi Chi Rodriguez, 2 burger patties with grilled onions, jalapenos, cream cheese, salsa, and lettuce. Sounds weird, tastes amazing. And of course the Mother Futcher Milkshake, homemade coffee cake crumbled into a butter pecan shake. My other distinct pleasure was one of their daily specials dubbed the "East Meats West" double patties, 2 chicken fingers, 3 onion rings and a sauce I can't recall. All in the same bun. We ate here 3 times during the 4 days we spent in OOB. Hoss and Mary are great people. Very friendly and you can tell they love what they do. We were finishing our dinner when they started to close up and since they were closed the next day Mary wrapped up the 5 remaining slices of Coffee Cake for us free of charge. If you're staying in Old Orchard Beach and within walking distance of the Pier and Palace Playland (which is pretty easy since all the hotels are lined up along the shore ) then there is no reason not to eat here whenever you eat out other than wanting Pizza or Chinese. The prices are fantastic, the portions feed you and then some, and most importantly the food is delicious.

Mother Futcher coffee cake. Mother Futcher coffee cake. Those in the know realize that's all you need to say. If you haven't been fortunate enough to partake of this, keep reading... As you walk around Old Orchard Beach, you may be deceived into thinking that all the sub/burger places are the same. But, you'd be gravely mistaken. Hoss & Mary's is no greasy spoon. The fries are WAY better than the Pier Fries because they are thick, fresh, and taste like a real potato should. They are the Plato's vision of fries. The sandwiches are so good that you wonder how they can be made from such simple ingredients. And, then...there is the Mother Futcher coffee cake. Amazing. Ask Mary to warm it up and slather some butter on it...Heavenly. Named for her grandmother, it is pure love on a plate. In fact, Mary will tell you that love is a main ingredient! I ate it as though it were the last piece of cake on earth. Every. Day. We. Were. There. :) I'm jealous if you go there. But you should. Mary and Hoss are also the most warm people you'll meet on the beach, so be sure to greet them with a smile and to appreciate the talent that comes from such an unassuming place.

Just made a yelp account to throw dirty on a companies name which I had an issue with today... I didn't want to go to sleep until I leveled out my first day on yelp so I had to think (for a split second) on a place I thoroughly enjoy and here you have it. Hoss and Mary's is a great place to eat breakfast lunch and dinner !

Full disclosure: Had just completed a triathlon in OOB, and chose this as my "post-race" gorge. Nice little place with mostly outdoor seating (covered) and counter seating indoors. Its mainly comfort foods, like fried seafood, burgers, dogs, fries. Things of that nature. I ordered: (fried) Lobster roll w/fries, clam cakes, chili dog and of course, the Mother Futcher's Milkshake. The lobster roll was good, tho the lobster (claw meat) was fried. It was a good light batter, and a nice change from the normal lobster rolls. Clam cakes were "meh". Never really had them before, and i guess i was expecting more. thankfully i ordered only the side portion. The chili dog was good, nice hearty chili on a normal hot dog. and finally, the highlight of the meal: Mother Futcher's Coffee Cake Milkshake. in a word, AMAZING. the bits of coffee cake were delicious. I like that they wedge a piece of the actual cake on the cup. and the nuts (walnuts, i think) in the shake really give it a nice touch and texture. Everything in the shake just worked well together. The people behind the counter (owners maybe? from what i gather from other reviewers) were as nice as they come. The man that gave me the food was very nice and was very appreciative that we visited and ate there. If i were to return to OOB, I would definitely visit Hoss and Mary's again.

Oh, glad to see I've already reviewed Hoss and Mary's. Funny how I felt compelled to come review them on my second visit too. Finally made it back down to try cheesecake for the first time. (Their Facebook page shows the cheesecake of the day often and we've been monitoring it closely.) We had the Almond Joy cheesecake. Freaking fantastic. A friend we were with declared it the best cheesecake he'd ever had. This time we swung by, while already in town. Next time, we'll have to make it the star and try more things.

This is the best place for a quick bite in OOB. I recommend the Rod Shaft but a must have are the potato cakes and coffee cake milkshake. Does not disappoint!

This was a stop on our Man vs Food tour of Maine. This place used to be Tradewinds Cafe"- actually in a different location too. My husband loved the Frankenstein and won't stop talking about it. He also liked the mother Futcher's shake (not really my type of thing). I enjoyed the slaw dogs. The fries with cheese, bacon and ranch are awesome! Hoss and Mary prepared our food, they are nice and fun. No complaints. Great location- just go out back and take your food to the beach for a picnic!

  • Kimberly H.

my bf and i went here last night....just moved to town and wanted to pick up something real quick to take back to the house and watch the game... very diverse and tasty menu....we had the brooklyn burger and onion rings...delicious, cooked perfectly and the onion rings are the best i've ever had and i order them everywhere i go the place was also very clean, which doesn't always seem to be a top priority for some of the businesses in good ol' OOB and the staff was exceptional! if you're in town , you should def make a stop here!

I am a spice person and the fact they incorporated siracha in the mayo it was good, true this place because our friend wanted to try due to Man vs. food. The manimal challenge was tempting but I don't think I would of been able to finish all that meat.

Must eat here. Cool vibe.. If you are at all a foodie you are familiar with Man VS. Food- we came to check it out because an episode was shot here! My boyfriend and I visited OOB and immediately got on YELP to find some good spots to eat.. Hoss and Mary's delivered a satisfying meal with and cool view of the street. I got the Turkey BLT light on the mayo.. And they actually listened- barely any mayo! Tons of turkey and the bacon was just perfect, crispy and not too much. The BF got the fried haddock- another winner. We will be coming back I am sure.. For that mother futcher.. go check them out!

The burgers are a stroke of genius and the MF milkshake was awesome.

This place is legit. The reviews are spot on. The mother futchers milk shake was wonderful. I also had the steak bomb and fries. The bomb was a greasy sandwich but what do you expect. I never heard of a steak bomb before (which is Maine's version of a Philly) but you add mushrooms, peppers, salami, and mayo. BOOM! There goes my ass. The owners are nice and do care about their food. Thy couldn't give two cents about what comes out the other end. Milkshake was the highlight!

Was so excited to eat here... Looking at my sub in the trash right now ... Burnt over grilled cold cuts that I paid 9.95 for. Took 2 bites and threw it out.. Worst Italian sub I have had ...what a shame I was so looking forward to a sandwich there

Food was ok. The lady working the counter was impatient and rude. Do not recommend unless you want to be treated poorly

We went when it was still the shack down near Kennebunk in October 2010, but while the location and name have changed I'm sure the quality of the food and service remains dynamite. We made two stops - one for lunch while we were in Kennebunk and then again on our way out for breakfast (and to have the Mother Futcher milkshake a second time). Old Orchard Beach is a great location and I can only hope good things for them. That town and this establishment is why I will return to Maine.

If you're hungry and want an out of the ordinary sandwich or burger this is the spot. Of course all the standards are available as well.

Food was great, prices were reasonable and the service was excellent. One note about the service. I have a very serious food allergy and when I mentioned it the server made sure to inform the cooks and also told me they fry the fish separately from the fries and onion rings. She made me feel comfortable and I appreciated it.

This isn't the place for you if you are on a diet or trying to eat healthy. However, if you want to treat yourself to some good fried fixings this place will do. We had the quarter pound cheeseburger, the fried haddock basket with fries, and the fiesta halibut wrap. Everything was satisfying but nothing out of this world. You walk up and order and they will call your name to pick it up. Some seating inside and outside.

Very delicious, different choices on the menu. Very little seating and no high-chairs/boosters for kids.

The Lobster Burger BLT....seriously one of the best burgers I've ever had...and only for $8...Don't leave Maine without trying this insane lobster burger combination!

Absolutely excellent. The burgers are on point and good sized menu. It seems that you can't go wrong with anything you order here. They only take cash but there's an ATM right inside the door.

This was a fun and unique restaurant. If you are looking for something tasty and creative this is your place. The people who run the restaurant are friendly and passionate about their food. This is a must stop, but a word to the wise if you are watching your waist size keep on walking.

We go eat down here once a year when my friends and I go to Old Orchard Beach. This is probably the best food near the boardwalk. The different types of burgers, sandwiches, and wraps keep me guessing each time I order and they all taste great. I think the real jaw dropper separating this place from the pack is the Mother Futcher's Milkshake. This place isn't all Man vs Food hype, it really is a good place to eat.

Hoss and Mary's isn't fine dining but it is some of the best eats around and the service is fantastic. I've been meaning to stop in and check this place out for a while now, and I finally managed to grab lunch recently. I indulged in the steak bomb and I'm pleased to report it pressed all the right buttons. Hot, gooey and a splash of grease. I was stuffed after this and didn't get to try anything else, but everything looked great. Can't wait to go back.

Disappointing. Attitude from woman who took our order. 6 of us went. Food all mediocre from Fried lobster to cheese steak to chili dog. Dropped $75 bucks for attitude & just ok food.

This is the little gem in Old Orchard. Mary is behind the counter and Hoss is at the grill. These are friendly people who are obviously passionate about their business. The kitchen is spotless and you can watch Hoss work. No matter what you order, make sure you get their potato cakes. They are mashed potatoes with corn and cheese cooked on the flat top so they are crisp on both sides, well seasoned and delicious. Their coffee is the only thing that could use a little work. They are opened year round (except for Tuesdays) and we plan to be loyal customer's whenever we are in town.

I have to admit, my boyfriend and I first saw this little gem on the Travel Channel when it was (formerly) Tradewinds in Arundel. We have been wanting to hit it up ever since and explore the sights on Old Orchard Beach, however a spontaneous day trip from Southeastern Massachusetts to OOB, Maine brought us there on a blustery Saturday afternoon in February. We arrived to a desert town with no cars and very few people walking along the beach, some with their dogs. We were able to park very easily across the street in the hotel parking lot. Hoss and Mary's seemed very inviting, bright colors filled the restaurant and before we made it to the menu boards we were intrigued with the Manimal Wall of Fame. It was cute and quaint, however I can imagine on a busy night the place is loud and moving. We were greeted by Mary, friendly and smiley and hustling about the restaurant. At first she came off a little snyde or maybe coccy, however I realized after a few moments that it was simply her personality, similar to my own, a strong woman who gets right to the point. She was very friendly with the locals- a few people who came through for lunch that she seemed to know from previous visits. Loud and boisterous and fun loving, while Hoss stood behind the grill (in sight) quietly cooking. We both had burgers and split a huge plate of cheese fries with bacon, ranch on the side (as requested). I had the Land 'n Sea burger, a junior cheeseburger served with a clam cake pressed on top and tarter (also requested on the side). Delicious and cooked perfectly, the clam cake was out of this world, a little different than I am used to in Mass, and tasted wonderful but a little too salty (personal preference) for me. Still very much amazing. The cheese fries were also out of this world. I was full and still wanted to pick at them because they LOOKED so good!! My boyfriend decided against the food challenge (due to our long ride back home, lol) and instead got a burger as well and I'm not quite sure the name of it although I looked at the menu online and saw nothing with pineapple in it, he insists it had pineapple and I thought some type of teryaki sauce? Either way, I didn't see it for very long before he inhaled it. FYI pictures of the menu are available here: urbanspoon.com/u/menu/15… We were both filled for the rest of the day, and had saved our appetite just for this place. A true gem and in a great spot, Hoss and Mary's must be crankin' during the summer. I would love to come back and visit and there are so many intriguing things on the menu- I had never been to a place that served fried bologna, one of my childhood favorites. Can't wait to visit again!

First of all, we are from out west and knew nothing about where to eat in Old Orchard Beach, but we were hungry and H&M was open -- a bonus on an off-season November night in OOB -- and so we decided "why not?" As we approached the door, we could smell good food and knew it was probably a good choice before we went in. It's a bit of a beach dive, with no real tables -- just stools around the perimeter on one side. The other side is the kitchen and a set of menu boards that is impressive in its number of offerings and somewhat intimidating, but greatly entertaining. My friend had the junior cheese burger and gobbled it right down without hesitation, licking her fingers so as not to waste a bit of its deliciousness. I had the Chesapeake Haddock Wrap, which was "as big as a chubby baby's thigh" and fresh and savory. We finished off with the coffee cake which really is every bit as good as everyone says it is. We found Mary to be a delightful, chatty woman who enjoys working with the public, and Hoss is an awesome cook!

Food is ok but no beer to help it go down. The wait staff is excellent but confined to a very limited menu. The chef should use a little creatively if management allows. Seems they are trying to live on the Foodnetwork challenge. Its a good thing Adam likes milk and not beer.

The chili dog I had was ok...but the woman had a bad attitude (I don't whether she was Hoss or Mary). The piles of vomit and broken glass on sidewalk at Old Orchard (not their fault in any way) walking there kind of sucked too.

Came up to OOB for vacation and had to check this place out. Soo glad I did! I got the land and sea burger and deep fried brownie nugs :) they were both amazing. The owners were super nice and the inside had such awesome decor. I'll definitely have to come back before vacation is over!

Delicious sandwiches to eat after having a bit too much to drink. I get the Rueben by the Sea and it never disappoints. The steak & cheese creations are something to look into as well. Really grateful they don't put calorie counts on the menu because i heard there are no calories on vacation ;)

recently visited OOB and as a culinary tourist was looking for the best place around.

I am a spice person and the fact they incorporated siracha in the mayo it was good, true this place because our friend wanted to try due to Man vs. food. The manimal challenge was tempting but I don't think I would of been able to finish all that meat.

Great location- just go out back and take your food to the beach for a picnic!

my bf and i went here last night....just moved to town and wanted to pick up something real quick to take back to the house and watch the game... very diverse and tasty menu....we had the brooklyn burger and onion rings...delicious, cooked perfectly and the onion rings are the best i've ever had and i order them everywhere i go the place was also very clean, which doesn't always seem to be a top priority for some of the businesses in good ol' OOB and the staff was exceptional! if you're in town , you should def make a stop here!
